Motivational Writing: The Good News and The Bad News
Motivational writing, to me, is difficult for two reasons. For one, it takes me away from the mystery and science fiction arenas that drive me to write. And secondly, motivational writing has a rougher reality to it than fiction. In fiction I can walk away from the story, or put down the tablet or book. But with something that touches where I live...another story completely. Reality bites...ever so hard.
The reason that I wrote a book about creating...although more of a short article than anything...is because I had so many people tell me that they wanted to become something...and never did anything about it. Some would tell me that they wanted to write a book, or others would say that they wanted to change jobs or own a business.
The rough edge of motivational books is always negative at the core. There is something bad, and therefore you need to rid yourself of something...or perhaps you need to do something differently...regardless...you are doing something wrong.
In my book, releasing in January, 2017, called Can't Never Did Do Nothing: Four Steps of the Creative Process, I wanted to lessen the blow of the bad news. Yes, you are doing something wrong...but here is what to do right. The original title was Four Roadblocks to the Creative Process, which sounded negative right off of the press.
I could save you some time and condense it down for you. You MUST follow your dreams, and you MUST pay the price. That's it. But some people just do not get it. I hear, over and over, people telling me what they want to do, but immediately with a hundred excuses. And bad times, to be honest, can create learned hopelessness. Life is rough.
There is no free lunch. There will be suffering on your road to success. There will be choices to make. There will be pain...but it will and can be worth it. I mean, as I explain in the book, your heart and body have these desires and dreams to fulfill. If you do not fulfill them, or at least try, you will suffer more than if you try and fail. You have to go for it.
Be willing to pay the price...go for your dreams...end the excuses... because...the good news is, YOU CAN DO IT !!
